I’ve had people bring in different car types from different countries. I guess it’s just for fun. I’m pretty much a collector when it comes to art. If you tell me what you like to draw then I can draw it for you. But I just like to draw anything.
“I can draw cars, but I would not draw cars for you.”
Is it hard to stay motivated?
Every day. This is my job. I can do whatever I want with my day but if I don’t show up I really can’t sustain myself.
What’s your favorite car, and why?
My Honda. The whole thing was so cool. I was able to sit in the cockpit and get this amazing view of the ocean every time I used it just looking out on this highway.
I bought it about five years ago and I’ve been looking at it ever since when I lived in Mexico. It’s so pretty but I still feel like the paint is a little faded. The interior is pretty good though. It has a great sound system.
What did you find most interesting about drawing the classic cars?
When you know you are one of the first people to paint a particular car they have a lot of influence. One of the best things about it was I didn’t know what to expect. I think people tend to put them in a box that they think they know. I didn’t know what to expect and so I think that’s what drew people in. I don’t know if it was an art or whether they’re just fans from childhood. It would have to be some kind of art. If something can only be done when you are one of the first people to paint it.
