It’s been a little over 1 year since I last had the chance to test this new and improved C-130W.
I’ve been reading some reviews on this helicopter:
It’s a big chopper and I didn’t think it was able to carry a heavy engine. In a test flight it was shown that the C-130 can do, on average, about 100kts at cruise power and in a very rough estimate that should be close to 1000 knots.
I really like the looks of these helicopters with the wide range of rotors and the large fuselage. They’re very well built and designed which is why I like them even more because of the cost of the parts and the fuel to operate them.
Since I have the spare parts and the fuel, I thought now is the time to try this newer and better chopper.
This time I will test it on the M2s Helicopters test and training range. This is my primary test range because I take my helicopter here every week to test it in an actual shooting situation.
The C-130 is the most commonly flown military helicopter in the world. It is an easy to fly aircraft and a good example of what can be done if you have the right people at the right time and money.
One of the main drawbacks of this helicopter is that it runs hot even with a decent engine. Most of my own testing is done with an engine in the 90 kts range. It’s been shown that even in the warm months one engine can run hot enough to cause damage to the rotor blades. This is why I prefer to use the M113, T-34 and GV-100 helicopters which run cooler and run for longer periods of time without overheating.
The first thing I try to do when flying the C-130 is I use the automatic flight guidance system, but I don’t use the autopilot. It’s a lot better than the autopilot but still a lot of work. I have the autopilot mounted in the tail and the only things you have to worry about are pitch and yaw.
