Well… the term was actually an attempt to define a different time period than the “downton Abbey of the day (1920–1929)”.
A popular American movie of the ’20s was “A Woman Underwood” directed by William Wyler. This film shows a woman who is a successful housewife (in her late 40s) but living in her 20s. The woman struggles with finding her own identity while balancing married and divorced spouses and a father who is constantly on the lookout for a “hot, young girl” to help raise their daughter.
In the 1920s the “Roaring Twenties” were quite different from the “downton Abbey” of 1939. During this time there existed many “New York Girls” and even a new form of entertainment called rock ‘n roll – which was dominated by these very young artists. The 1930s was a very transitional period.
It was through the ’30s that women were beginning to enjoy equal rights and even a little success (such as “Dinah Shore” as she was known). Women in the “Roaring Twenties” didn’t even start working until the late 1940’s.
The 1920s also saw the beginning of what came to be known as the Woman’s Liberation movement. Feminists (particularly in the United States) wanted to “liberate” women from the traditional roles of women, such as mother, wife, child, cook, chauffeur, maid, and servant, and “move” them “out of the farm” and into “the city”. The end result of this movement was the American domestic revolution and a major shift in the “American home”.
So there you have it, one of the most important times in American history (for women) in the history of America.
(I think I’m doing some new research and re-reading the facts with this article and I’ll add some more stuff as well as add my two cents.)
For the orc-like elementals of the Eastern Kingdoms, see Shade (Eldar).
Shade is a winged elven-like elemental found in the Isle of Quel’Danas. It was originally found in the ancient caverns beneath the Isle of Quel’Danas, only to fall into ruin and ruin again when the Horde discovered a temple inside the depths of the island. The temple was sealed and the area sealed and was never opened.
