Is gangsta rap a genre?

Gangsta rap, to me, isn’t a genre.

It isn’t an industry. It is a way of life. That’s how it’s perceived now. I don’t think it gets any better than it ever was.

That’s what has me so angry as I sit here and I look at how gangsta rap has been portrayed and made pop culture. I’m not the only one. The mainstream media is feeding off that, and people in Hollywood are making a living at depicting the way my life really is.

But that’s not right.

That’s not right, for many reasons. The only way to know is to watch rap. I’m fortunate enough, in all my years, to work with some of the top producers I’ve ever had. The only way I can really know when that’s happening is to watch the music.

I’ll tell you what’s happened to me in my life, and it’s not what most people think about me.

One of the first things that happened to me was the death of my cousin, Jayde Taylor. She was murdered. I was 14 or 15 then, and I was really young. I don’t even think I went to the funeral.

I was watching one of the videos that got played in the news and my cousin was being dragged off like she was some dumb b—- who deserved punishment for what she did to her kid.

She told me about the day she learned what was happening to her little girl. I knew it was my turn, but that’s only because it’s all I’m allowed to think about at that age. My cousin was my best friend; I was her biggest fan. And we always talked about music.

I’ve been reading interviews where all the talk is about the music as much as the murder. But what really bothered me was the type of music being played. The people interviewed talked about it in the most brutal, brutal, brutal ways.

One of the people interviewed didn’t even know why my cousin was murdered. He was in jail; she wasn’t. But he didn’t even care. He just wanted to tell the kids about how it was coming at them and how they need to do something about it. He told them that it
