The bass player is one of the best. His guitar is on the bass.
What is the best guitar solo you’ve recorded?
I’ve done ‘Jubilee’ a lot with a guitar solo. “Millionaire Girl” I played all by myself and that was the first time I really tried to do it. It was the first song I’d ever written in my life.
Are you a big fan of any jazz musicians?
I’ve written to many, and love the guitarists.
What is the first song you want to play for your family that you have not already played for them?
‘Little Boy Blue’ by Hank Williams Jr.
What is your most prized possession and why?
I own both the keyboard and the guitar. I have a couple of guitars and I have two keyboards. I do want one of the guitars and bass amp, or a guitar amp that would play the songs. I have an old Gretsch G50 which I haven’t needed in years. It’s been over 10 years.
What makes you happy about playing the guitar?
The fact that I don’t have to listen to all the music on the radio and the fact that I can keep doing it.
Do you have any plans to get back into playing? Is it realistic to expect much more to come out of you?
Well, I’ve played all kinds of instruments. As well as the guitar and keyboard, I like to play the drums. I love playing drums. I used to play a lot of bass. I have a bass rig. I also like playing the piano. A lot of my music was recorded with the piano—some recordings, with the drums. Now I don’t have an actual piano rig. I do have an old Yamaha B-200 which I also use.
What kind of music do you listen to while playing?
I listen at home. I love music on the piano and the guitar. Music in all different genres.
Do you get tired?
Not at all. I like playing for hours because I feel so good when I’m playing music.
What is your favourite recording technique?
The way I play on both keyboards and the guitar is kind of slow. When it’s quiet I’m kind of like playing ‘Blank Face’ in a bar. I don’t play the songs with any kind of rhythm, it’s all pretty relaxed
