Well if an ukulele is just your daily tool and the music is the icing on the cake. You may be able to afford a used instrument from someone. If you can’t afford it, don’t bother looking.
However, if you want to spend a lot of money, then the top quality ukulele, well it usually includes a neck, a string system and an enclosure. These are what you should consider putting on a guitar if anything, although the neck may cost you more. So if you don’t consider them, you might get a cheap instrument.
In a recent post, Mr. Eason said he spent $3,500 on a guitar and a great ukulele combo for his wedding last year.
You see it’s not just the quality of the instrument you should think of, it was the quality of the couple too- a good quality guitar or bad quality ukulele combo.
“The wedding was the highlight of my life,” says Mr. Eason. “This was the first time I spent the money to make an investment in myself and my instrument.” He says he was inspired by a fellow musician who gave him his first guitar as a gift. “That guitar became a second favorite. I was looking for a similar reward.”
So how much? Well, if you’re looking to add in a guitar string system, for example, that can range anywhere from $1000-$6000. If you’re looking further out, you may want to consider a string system for the ukulele too.
For example, I’ve gotten the best ukulele I’ve seen, it’s got a beautiful ukulele neck and the string system for strings is a gorgeous setup. It’s got three humi pickups and a single coil pickup. A good ukulele should have a great sound. If you can’t find it from a guitar maker, go to a local ukulele store and ask about their strings or pick ups. But really, it all depends what you’re looking for.
