I can’t think of a song that’s more fingerpicking-oriented, which is kind of cool because a lot of times you can get all kinds of different instruments to play along with you. So there’s that sort of weird hybrid, but then you know, I try to avoid too many songs playing different things. But it is harder to play fingerpicking. There is a lot of fingerpicking-based stuff in this record. I think that’s the thing that makes “Inner City” sound different, because it’s more synth-like, and not guitar-like. I think a part of me, sometimes, just enjoys those little moments that I can write over on the guitar where I can have the vocal track and the vocal guitar solo thing. Whereas if I played fingerpicking on the guitar, I really wouldn’t be able to do that. So I always want to make sure that I have that different sound, or guitar sound, that I can be doing that for this song. It’s got some really fun little guitar riffs on there. But I don’t always know if I’m going to get that sound on there.

So it was very interesting from a story-telling perspective. And then we talked about some stuff that I was interested in, and how a lot of the visuals in the video were sort of influenced by all of the stuff that’s been happening in New Orleans lately, and in the music scene. And it really was a weird process. But I always like the juxtaposition of that and the music, or whatever the songs I’m talking about are, so it was fun to sort of go in different directions with it.
What can fans expect from the live recordings?
I haven’t done a live video since I played some shows in Japan last year. So it’s kind of gone from maybe five or six live shows on this tour that I’ve done, in Tokyo through San Francisco, to this being a little more of a one-off at this point. And I was so nervous. I did maybe six different takes of every single live show, and at the end of it, I was like, I don
