What finger do you strum a ukulele with? – Ukulele Open Strum

Do you play them with a pinky? A thumb? A pinky for it, or no?

When you look at a ukulele, you probably think of the strings – strings that are a little different. What sounds the most “kinky” isn’t necessarily what makes it “fun.” It could be a bass tone from a uke, or a melody on string-bending, or a bass note from a string-bending uke.

The right hand also can become the focal point, so take a look at a few other instruments, such as the ukulele and cello, and take note of the fingers involved.

The top-strumming fingers in an ukulele may be:

Finger 1 – The middle finger, or middle finger.

Finger 2 – The ring finger, or the pinky finger.

I don’t think the thumb on a cello is part of the chord, so if you want to strum the chord, the thumb on the cello would give you a different sound than the thumb on an uke.

The bottom-strumming fingers in an ukulele may be:

Finger 3 – The middle and ring fingers, or the middle finger and the thumb.

The thumb on a bass uke may be part of the chord, so there could be a slightly different sound on an uke than on a bass uke.

There are many options involved in tuning a uke strings and tuning the fretboard. To get a general idea of what’s involved, here are some examples:
