There are many ways I could spend this weekend. I could go to visit a grandparent, see some of my heroes on Saturday, or see which of my favorites this weekend gets the big screen treatment. Or just take in some beautiful landscapes and spend the day with friends. Or I could just be me and I could just be a damn good writer. So what’s my pick, a little of everything.
This post is dedicated to my good friend and writer, Markos Konstantinidis (also known as Fionn) of The Dorkwood. In his words:
Today is the day.
It’s been two years since the release of my first novel, and I finally am ready to show off the fruits of my labor. I’ve been having some fun with one of my favorite things to do with my family, writing. The Dorkwood is a big part of my writing history, and I couldn’t be happier about the opportunity to finally take it to the next level.
The new novel will be called The Unauthorized Guide to the Dorkwood, and I had a chance to sit down with Markos last week and talk about his inspirations for this book, and his process for getting it ready for publication. (We’ll touch on all of that below, hopefully!)
The Unauthorized Guide to the Dorkwood is your traditional fantasy that the people who live in the Dorkwood love. It’s big, epic, and full of monsters and monsters’ blood. Its setting is mostly in the South Pole region of North America, though some chapters take place in Antarctica, the Mediterranean, and New York City. You can also read the books on Google Books, if you so desire.
So I’m pleased to say that the book will be out in September, a little over four months from now! I’m not sure if I can get around to releasing a followup (no promises! I’m still waiting for my agent to clear!), but I will continue to update the The Unauthorized Guide to the Dorkwood on my blog.
What can you expect from The Unauthorized Guide to the Dorkwood?
This book is a massive work in progress, packed with lots of stuff I want to show off. I’m hoping to share some snippets of this at the end of August.
If you can wait until August, here’s a preview of one of the early chapters, with some fun illustrations by Fionn:
