The word “swear” comes from the Latin word “swearre.” When one puts one’s hands upon a book, it is believed by some that their hands are not touching a book. One reason is that the book is not being held in their hands. One of the early English versions of the Bible said that because a person used their hand to open the Bible it would be sinful to swear in. Later versions did not make such a distinction. Some people still consider swearing to be improper and should never be said.
Does the Bible say not to lie?
The word “lie” comes from the Latin word “lierum.” The Greek word “liara” means to lie, to falsify. The word “lie” is so named, for it is used in a situation where an oath is needed. In times of need, God commanded that we must make an oath when we believe, but do not know. The word “lie” implies a false or misleading statement. In other words, if an oath is made when we do not know for certain the truth, the action would be a lie.
How do we know the Bible is not true?
The Bible says it is true: “And I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall say, I know thou canst never be moved; and whoso that shall say unto this little mountain, Remove from under me; and shall not doubt in his heart: Then shall he say unto the sea, Remove from under me; and it shall remove him. For we know that whatsoever speaketh the truth, these are the servants of the Most High.” (Matthew 16:24-26).

No. The Bible does not say it is like the Bible says it is. “True and false religion” are only different ways of looking at the same thing, the fact that we believe something that God would not want.
Does the Bible really tell us the truth?
The Bible does not say it does not tell us the truth. One verse in the King James Bible says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, stand fast in the love of the Lord, and hold the traditions which have been entrusted to your hands, as being in Christ Jesus.” (Luke 18:17).
